And even though the writing had been on the wall for some time, we were still disappointed to see that convenient functionality removed from Windows. \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p>But we live in Microsoft&#8217;s world, and we must react to their dictates as best we can.<\/p>\n<p>So going forward, AlwaysUp will scan the operating system and determine if Session 0 is accessible or not. If it&#8217;s not, then:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>The Switch to Session 0 toolbar button will be hidden:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.coretechnologies.com\/blog\/images\/switch-to-session-0-button-removed.png\" class=\"zoomPopup\" title=\"Switch to Session 0 Toolbar Button Removed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image-padding\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.coretechnologies.com\/blog\/images\/switch-to-session-0-button-removed.png\" title=\"Switch to Session 0 Toolbar Button Removed (click to enlarge)\" alt=\"Switch to Session 0 Toolbar Button Removed\" border=\"0\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The Switch to Session 0 menu entry (found under the <b>Tools<\/b> menu) will be removed:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.coretechnologies.com\/blog\/images\/switch-to-session-0-menu-removed.png\" class=\"zoomPopup\" title=\"Switch to Session 0 Menu Entry Removed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image-padding\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.coretechnologies.com\/blog\/images\/switch-to-session-0-menu-removed.png\" title=\"Switch to Session 0 Menu Entry Removed (click to enlarge)\" alt=\"Switch to Session 0 Menu Entry Removed\" border=\"0\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note that your application will continue to run properly as a Windows Service in the isolated Session 0 &mdash; you just can&#8217;t see it there. You can always select <b>Application &gt; Restart in this session<\/b> from the menu to bring your program visibly onto your desktop.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"blog-caption\">View &amp; set Windows Service &#8220;Read&#8221; permissions<\/h2>\n<p>While AlwaysUp would allow you to set who can start, stop or modify each Windows Service it creates, the interface could not show (or grant) someone the ability to simply read the service. This  shortcoming was recently addressed in <a href=\"\/products\/ServiceSecurityEditor\/\">Service Security Editor<\/a> and we have now done the same in AlwaysUp.<\/p>\n<p>Select <b>Application &gt; Advanced &gt; Service Security Settings<\/b> to interact with the new &#8220;Read&#8221; element:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.coretechnologies.com\/blog\/images\/service-security-settings-read-rights.png\" class=\"zoomPopup\" title=\"View\/Set Service Read Permissions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image-padding\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.coretechnologies.com\/blog\/images\/service-security-settings-read-rights.png\" title=\"View\/Set Service Read Permissions (click to enlarge)\" alt=\"View\/Set Service Read Permissions\" border=\"0\" width=\"520\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"blog-caption\">Technical enhancements for Windows Server 2019<\/h2>\n<p>Windows Server 2019 was released in October (and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.windows.com\/windowsexperience\/2018\/11\/13\/resuming-the-rollout-of-the-windows-10-october-2018-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">re-released in November<\/a> after some disturbing technical glitches were addressed). Each major update was thoroughly tested and no issues were found.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The registration window now displays the <b>version number<\/b> &mdash; to help customers complete registration on the correct version of the software.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The registration process provides additional labels and <b>informative pop-up messages<\/b> to help customers complete the process without incident.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The <b>enhanced &#8220;Help&#8221; menu<\/b> includes a link to our Blog and a link to <a href=\"\/blog\/support\/alwaysup-help-details\/\">an article describing how to report problems<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>When AlwaysUp is running in evaluation mode, the title of the main window now mentions <b>when the 30-day trial will expire<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-top:10px\">As usual, please review the <a href=\"\/products\/AlwaysUp\/VersionHistory.html\">release notes<\/a> for the full list of features, fixes and improvements included in this release.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"blog-caption\">Upgrading to AlwaysUp Version 11.5<\/h2>\n<p>If you purchased <b>AlwaysUp version 10 (after January 2017)<\/b> you can upgrade to version 11.5 for free.
