Think of the chaos that would ensue if Joe Blow, who barely knows how to print to a web page, was able to tinker with those critical processes and bring the entire PC to its knees!

However, every now and then we come across a specific instance where it makes sense for a non-administrator to stop, start or restart a misbehaving service without the overhead of involving someone else more credentialed. Relaxing the service’s permissions is the proper solution, but we have found Microsoft’s free command-line tools a bit cumbersome to use.

Our new (and completely free) Service Security Editor standalone GUI utility makes setting a service’s permissions a piece of cake. Simply select the service, find the user, and point & click to grant/deny the proper rights.

Enjoy! And as always, feedback is appreciated.

You may also like...

<a href="https://www.coretechnologies.com/blog/alwaysup/secure-windows-service/"class="relpost-block-single" >

Q&A: How do I Protect my AlwaysUp Services from Unauthorized Changes?

<a href="https://www.coretechnologies.com/blog/alwaysup/version-11-8-released/"class="relpost-block-single" >

AlwaysUp 11.8: Hourly Restarts, Helpful Application Info, Improved Email Alerts + More

<a href="https://www.coretechnologies.com/blog/switch-to-session-0/interactive-service-switch-to-session-0/"class="relpost-block-single" >
<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" class="relpost-block-single-image" alt="Working with Interactive Services?
