How to Keep the MySQL Windows Service Running 24/7 with Service Protector

Automatically restart MySQL when it crashes or stops for any reason. Achieve 100% uptime for your database applications today!

MySQL is the world's most popular open source SQL database.

To protect MySQL with Service Protector:

  1. Download, install and configure MySQL, if necessary.

  2. Download and install Service Protector, if necessary.

  3. Start Service Protector.

  4. Select Protector > Add to open the Add Protector window:

    Add Protector

  5. On the General tab:

    • In the Service to protect field, select MySQL. You will notice a green circle on the left if the MySQL service is already running, as pictured below.

  6. Click the Save button. In a couple of seconds, an entry called MySQL will show up in the Service Protector window. MySQL is probably already running but it is not yet being monitored by Service Protector.

  7. To start protection, choose Protector > Start "MySQL". The shield icon will go to green to indicate that MySQL is being protected:

  8. That's it! Next time your computer boots, MySQL will start and Service Protector will begin monitoring the service and restart it if it fails.

We encourage you to edit MySQL in Service Protector and check out the many other settings that may be appropriate for your environment. For example, send an email when the service fails, restart MySQL periodically to keep performance snappy, and much more.
